we brought this acer laptop 18 months ago for our son,it has had problems right from the start, terrible. now another problem with the screen flickering and half missing, lines etc,we have checked connections, look ok,could be inverter or lcd/cables. does anyone have any ideas because acer just want money, money, money to help…plugged to outside monitor works fine,,,wouldnt hurt acer to help instead of wanting money, money, money, but there you go.

Yeah I had an acer. I just upgraded to an HP laptop that came with windows7. The issue with mine was that it looked like i had cracked the screen even though i never dropped it.

Remove the display and check the display cable. you can see a video n my favourites which can guide you through the process. Hope that helps.

my brand new hp dv5 bought directly from hp does this too, it’s just even a month old, and it already shows this problems… huh?

are these ribbon problems? like i said my laptop is still a month old and brand new, but why it is already defective?

interint but dont know how to do that, is there a video or pic expnaiton of that?

  • faridjabba said:

is that fixable on any screen and why it hapends?

  • DscplOfGod said:

I see this problem very often; usually it is the LCD ribbon cable which has dislodged slightly from the back of the LCD panel. To fix, unscrew and remove the front screen bezel, then unscrew the LCD panel and tilt it forwards so you can get to the back, then carefully remove the tape which holds the connector to the back of the LCD in place, remove and reseat the connector and replace the peice of tape.

Reassemble and it should work fine; if it doesn’t the LCD panel itself may be faulty,

when i plug it into my desktop it works good to

  • WhySayThat said:

It may be your cable as mine works perfectly on the monitor after this

  • FuryLord2 said:

yes i plug it in using that. i turn on the laptop and they both display the same thing up to the windows logo then when it gets to the desktop its only on the laptop

  • WhySayThat said:

You use the blue headed cable and plug it into the socket on the monitor and on the laptop, the socket should have lots of little prongs and a screw kinda hole either side

  • FuryLord2 said:

i have a monitor but how do i tell the laptop to use that instead? im not good at this =/

  • FuryLord2 said:

mine is doing the same thing but ive only had it since march

  • PointyFox said:

The ribbon cable connecting to the back of your screen is either loose or damaged.

Acer suxxx big time..I have heard many owning this brand compain abt the same & mine is no lesser!! As i watch this time, the screen has started dancing again…lol..Some one pls upload a video which can help many of us resolve this annoying problem & tht way v dont have too pay those greedy acer service centres for a silly problem like this one…

my son had this problem, take out 4 screws from of display, pull off the display border unscrew 2 screws off the hinges and youll see behind the screen is a floppy curcuit board, if looking at the screen face on youll need to push the curcuit board on the top left , so your putting pressure on the board and forcing it down hill towards the hinges, this can be done safely while still switched on, take care not rip off any components, then i used strong tape to hold it in place, worked for me ?
