Sony VAIO Laptop Model Reviews

16 December 2009 No Comment

Sony VAIO laptops for sale offer some of the most stylish and feature-packed laptops today. The Blu-ray drives to the materials used in the casing makes the VAIO true premium notebooks. However, apart from the NR Series of Sony VAIO laptops for sale, the rest of the lineup is priced a bit on the higher side.

Whatever you’re looking for in a laptop, a whole range of Sony VAIO laptops for sale is available to you. From the AR Series of multimedia laptops to one of the leading high-end ultra-portables, the TZ, Sony should have something perfect for you.

AR Series
The AR is Sony’s multimedia notebook offering. With a 17” screen running at a native resolution of 1920×1200 and a Blu-ray burner you can watch High Definition movies in full 1080p. And with HDMI output included, you can even hook it up to your HDTV. Other notable features include dual hard drives for massive storage capacity and XBrite glossy screen technology. Although some wouldn’t label glossy screens a feature, it does provide for more vivid colors.

FZ Series
Marketed as a thin and light desktop replacement, the FZ Series of Sony laptops for sale offers pretty good value as far as Blu-ray-equipped multimedia laptops are concerned. It features a durable and lightweight magnesium casing and HDMI output. Its good thing an HDMI port is included because the 15.4” screen comes only in 1280×800 resolution. With panels available in 1440×900 and 1680×1050, there’s no reason not to offer a higher resolution screen as an option. Another negative is the integrated graphics in the entry-level model. The Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT is, thankfully, an option for the rest of the FZ line.

CR Series

Available in 9 designer colors, the 14” CR Series of Sony VAIO laptops for sale is enticing if you’re looking to turn heads at Starbucks. Aimed at college students, the CR Series features a 1280×800 native resolution and a Double-Layer DVD burner. If you are looking to run any graphics intensive software, then look elsewhere. The CR line of Sony VAIO laptops for sale only comes with integrated graphics.

NR Series

At a price point of around $800, the NR Series is Sony’s most affordable VAIO laptop for sale yet. Look around for discounted Sony VAIO laptops and bring the price down even more. As an entry-level laptop, don’t expect mind-blowing performance numbers from the NR. It comes with integrated graphics, which is good enough for general computing needs, and a native resolution of only 1280×800. It also weighs a heavy 6.3lbs. Perhaps the most notable feature is the textured finish of the NR Series, which is available in various colors.

TZ Series

This 11” 1366×768 wide screen wonder is perhaps the standard by which all high-end ultra portables are compared to. The TZ is small enough to fit comfortably in your briefcase, weighs under 3lbs and has a battery life of up to 8.5 hours. It is available with either a hard drive or a solid state drive. You can even opt for dual storage (HDD and SSD) at the expense of the optical drive. The price may cause some sticker shock so look for discounted Sony VAIO laptops if the features (not to mention the optional carbon fiber black finish) are exactly what you’re looking for.

SZ Series

At only 4lbs and 0.9” thick, this 13.3” 1280×800 wide screen notebook is a good compromise between portability and power. It features a lightweight magnesium or carbon fiber body. Along with fingerprint biometric security and an LED back lit LCD, the SZ also features Hybrid Graphics technology. With the ability to cold switch between integrated graphics and the 8400 GS, battery life of 6 hours is possible.
